The Four Angles: Ascendant, MC, Descendant & IC

Midheaven (MC)

Highest point; cusp of the 10th house in quadrant systems. Career and public life. Midheaven calculator.

Imum Coeli (IC)

Lowest point, opposite the MC; cusp of the 4th house. Home, roots and private foundations.

Planets on the Angles

Planets within a few degrees of an angle are especially prominent in the personality and life story.

Cancer	Capricorn	ambitious, disciplined, responsible, patient
Leo	Aquarius	independent, original, humanitarian, inventive
Virgo	Pisces	compassionate, imaginative, intuitive, dreamy
Libra	Aries	bold, direct, energetic, competitive
Scorpio	Taurus	steady, sensual, patient, loyal

Why Angles Need a Precise Time

The angles rotate through the whole zodiac every 24 hours — about one degree every four minutes. A birth time off by 30 minutes can shift the Ascendant by 7° or more, enough to change sign. If your time is uncertain, see birth time rectification.

Angular Planets

Planets conjunct an angle (within about 5°) are called angular. Sun or Mars on the Ascendant gives a strong, energetic presence; Venus on the Descendant draws partners easily; Saturn on the MC often brings late but lasting career success; the Moon on the IC ties identity to home and family.
