Who Is Chiron?

Chiron is a small body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, discovered in 1977. Astrologers named it after the centaur of Greek myth: a gifted teacher and healer who was wounded by a poisoned arrow and could not heal himself. In the birth chart, Chiron represents a lasting sensitivity — and the gift of helping others with the very thing that hurts.

How to Read Chiron

  1. Sign — the flavor of the wound and the gift. Chiron spends anywhere from about 2 to 8 years in a sign, so it is partly generational.
  2. House — the life area where you feel it most personally.
  3. Aspects — planets touching Chiron carry its theme; Chiron conjunct the Sun, Moon or an angle is especially strong.

The Chiron Return

Chiron takes about 50 years to orbit the Sun, so around age 49–51 it returns to its natal position. Many people experience this as a time to make peace with an old wound, mentor others and step into a wiser role.

Working With Chiron

  • Name the sensitivity instead of hiding it.
  • Notice where you help others with the same issue — that's the gift.
  • Healing is gradual; Chiron is about integration, not perfection.
